Book Synopsis:

During guard duty on a cool autumn night, a young soldier thinks about killing someone. He has his reasons and he has some thoughts about it. He may have already killed someone when he was younger, so would killing another person make any difference? Gerald Casey has grown from being one of those children who slip through the cracks, to the young soldier he is now. It was nobody's fault really, just that he was overlooked by people who had other things on their minds. Now he has grown, joined the military, and found himself in a situation he cannot support. Gerald, or Jerry as he likes to be called, feels he has to make a life or death decision and he has very little experience to guide him. He has done things and had things done to him, that have given him a skewed perspective on life. Will that perspective be enough to guide him?

Author's Bio

Product Description

This book supplements all teaching methods. Directions are given to assist every golfer in moving beyond theory, to experience their own natural swing.

Product Review

Basic swing mechanics, not basic golf fundamentals, have been eliminated from my teaching since I read True Golf. Natural rhythm and swing motion are now the foundation for lasting enjoyment and improvement.” True Golf is the pinnacle of instructional golf books. I have maybe seventy golf books in my golf library, and I can throw them all away.”

-Randy Byers, Head Professional, Arnold Palmer Master Instructor, Deacon Palmer Award / Instructor of the Year, Watson Ranch G.C., Coos Bay, OR.

“True Golf reveals the answer to your true swing motion. Had I read True Golf first – it would have been the last.”

-Jerry Roberts, Life PGA Member, Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame, L.V., NV

“I went out to the yard to practice without a ball for several times a day for about a week, and then I went out to golf with my friend Hazel. She is a good golfer and always out drove me, but not this time. To my surprise, I could be as long as she was! She said, what happened to you? I said I am studying True Golf. I love the book.”

-Lenke Brown, Author, Age 88, Brunswick Plantation & Golf Resort, Calabash, N.C.

“I am a long drive competitor and my last recorded handicap is a 1.2. After having the great privilege of working with Tom Woods, it became obvious his teaching abilities were remarkable to say the least. I have witnessed first hand the genius he uses in combining the spoken word with swing motion. This translates to the student automatically. People can easily apply his techniques and see almost instant results. He dramatically improved my handicap from a 9 to a 3 within a few months. My thanks to you Tom Woods, for finally writing for all, what only a few have witnessed.”

-Scott “The Crusher” Bedoin, Professional Long Driver, Las Vegas, Nevada

“It’s good. It’s great. It’s excellent! Spot On!!”

-Clif Vanetti, PGA Director of Instruction, Badlands G.C., Las Vegas, Nevada

“Tom Woods conveys his approach to the game on a level that is unique and positively effective. I went from the 90’s to the 70’s in 6 months. His simple and effective method will have you shooting the round of your dreams in no time. Also, two weeks after working with Tom, I shot my first hole-in-one! The more I just feel it and believe, they fly with intentional authority and accuracy. Cool. There is nothing else like it.”

-Sean Cirrito, Photographer, Palmdale, CA.

WRITERS BLOC showcases writing as diverse as the authors themselves. These offerings range through the genres, from classic short stories -- with a twist -- to imaginative and appealing memoirs, from disturbing crime adventure to intellectually and morally engaging science fiction.

The reader will find entertainment, humor, and even joy, but not confort, because all of these writers show their edges. The nonfiction treats the difficult and emotionally loaded subjects of death and grieving, including the mysteries of cryogenics; the realities of probate law; the idiocies of our sane civil court system; and the possibilities for living a gay-friendly life in a variety of environments.

From twisted sexual adventures to ghost stories of real and tragic ghost, from sweet, healing, or wrenching family memoirs to laugh-out-loud encouters with Las Vegas strip clubs, WRITERS BLOC offers a wonderful montageof the exploration and essence of American life.

Writers Bloc is the first published collection of the Henderson Writers Group of Southern Nevada. While many of the stories have local southern locations, the spirit of the book is truly universial in the best sense of the write's craft.

Amanda Callin craves power and revenge. Revenge for the life she feel she is forced to live and power to exact that revenge. Now, all that is within her grasp, with the colonies foremost computer developer, Alex Ballard, as her prisoner. Now Alex wages a desperate battle to keep Amanda out of his head and stay alive. Meanwhile, Elise Danion finds herself in a three way race to save her friend. Along with Russ Edwards, her co-pilot, and crew member Mike Archer, they jump from one star system to another following clues and tips, from and anonymous source. Elise discovers that her growing dread for Alex’s life is justified when they run head long into an unforeseen threat to Alex’s life. Now Elise must outwit not only the privateers leader but an Authority officer so bent on destroying Callin’s end, that he will forfeit Alex’s life to prove himself.

A hyper-drive malfunction forces the Capricorn off its course, stranding it in uncharted space. The crew of the Capricorn uncovers an unknown colony from Earth’s past, and a plot that, if carried out, could place the future of the Colonies, and possibly Earth itself, in jeopardy. Alone, in Amanda Callin’s realm, the Capricorn’s crew must fight for their survival. Callin’s scheme must be thwarted, but can Elsie, Russ and Alex stay alive long enough to stop her?

In 1932 on a farm in Minnesota, a mother dies leaving her teenage daughter to raise an orphaned boy and keep house for six adult men in her family. The boy finds solace on top the windmill, and an elderly uncle seeks sanctuary inside the cupola on the barn. Three of the girl's brothers leave home to marry, her uncle dies and the boy is reclaimed by his natural father when he turns nineteen. She fills the void in her home with another kind of orphan, a runaway teenage girl. Complications from shattered relationships, new social ties and normal events of farm life create constant challenges. Just when all seems well, the catastrophe occurs. Through the screen of humor and pathos, ordinary people struggle to find that balance between themselves and their environment. Their actions are neither heroic nor tragic. Through joys and sorrows they seek fulfillment and find a sustained optimism.

Based on an actual investigation: the story of a medical examiner's office run amok.

An upstate New York medical examiner is accused by subordinates of mishandling bodies. The allegations include: taking research tissue without consent; and keeping bodies that should have been buried or cremated.

The medical examiner claims the charges are from disgruntled employees with an axe to grind; the county supports him.

Dept. of Health Investigator John Grant, is tasked with finding out what has really happened in The Morgue.

Excerpt:

Dr. Franz strode into the room and stopped across the conference table from Grant. "Why do you want to see this file?" he demanded, slamming the folder on the table. "Who are you anyway?"

"I told you, I'm with the Department of Health. I'm here to conduct an inspection," Grant answered

Las Vegas was established in 1905 as a railroad town. Most of its population was comprised of tough railroad workers, ranchers, and miners, who worked, drank, and fought hard. Sam Gay, the first police chief as well as the first elected county sheriff, broke up the numerous scuffles by grabbing the combatants by the scruff of their necks and banging their heads together.

Over the years Las Vegas left behind its rough and tumble beginnings to become the gambling and entertainment capital of the world. For decades, the population has grown at a phenomenal pace. The influx of people and money, naturally, brought crime. From prostitutes to street gangs, mobsters to drug dealers, robbers to cheats, Sin City has seen it all. And law enforcement efforts have had to adapt accordingly.

Policing Las Vegas follows the evolution of law enforcement in Las Vegas and Clark County from the days of night watchmen and cops who carted drunks to jail on horseback to today’s acclaimed Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The transition wasn’t always smooth. There were plenty of power struggles, political battles, and rogue cops. But there were also many acts of valor and heroism, and a number of officers made the ultimate sacrifice.

This book is filled with stories about the colorful characters from both sides of Las Vegas law enforcement, cops and criminals, deeds and misdeeds. They’re drawn from history, legend, and the personal accounts of many people who policed Las Vegas. The book also contains more than 100 photographs, some of which are being made public for the first time.

While writing poetry is not the top priority of my life. It does provide an outlet for ideas that I would otherwise overlook.

Poetry can say something in far fewer words in many ways than a short story or even the full length novel can.

It does, however, take a bit on inspiration to sit with pencil in hand, a blank piece of paper and write something beautiful that everyone can understand and appreciate and yet at the same time make it rhyme and maybe even be in meter.

In these pages I have hopefully created ideas that are understood and may in some way bring a smile or tear to your eye.

We read so much today in the newspapers and see even more on the television sets throughout our homes and our lives that sometimes it is gratifying just to sit and listen to the gentle breeze as it flutters the leaves in the trees outside our windows.

There are two humming birds in my neighborhood. They are interesting in what they do. They flutter their little wings and inspect their surroundings to find sweetness and little else. Are they important? Do they create headlines worthy news interests? Of course not. They are as innocent as what we refer to as "the driven snow. In their own little way though, they create an interest. How do they manage to flutter their wings and hover in a single place?

Poetry is like that in many ways. Poets flutter their pens, like the birds flutter their wings. We may be going nowhere like the humming birds, but sometimes, just sometimes we write something that might turn out as beautiful as the little humming bird. And maybe that's all we ask.

Ted Bronson is a Vietnam combat veteran suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms. He and his wife Michelle are private investigators specializing in financial investigations.

They have been looking into allegations that there is corruption in the handling of public employee pension funds in California. Ted isn’t sure the charges have any merit, but decides to run the scenario by a friend who is a financial whiz. When he arrives at the man’s office he finds the police on the scene and his friend dead, an apparent suicide. Ted is questioned and provides vague answers, not wanting to expose the real reason for the meeting. Everything changes a few hours later, however, when his friend’s death is reclassified as a murder.

The Bronsons are drawn ever deeper into the investigation. It is a journey from which there is no return, and one that may very well destroy them both.

Four people, brutally murdered during the robbery of a Las Vegas convenience store. As the police investigation of the killings moves forward, the cops begin to suspect that robbery may not have been the motive at all. It appears more and more likely that the killer was really after one of the victims and the heist was only a diversion.

But which one was the real target? Was it the young clerk? How about the Hispanic man who worked at the airport? Or maybe it was the tough guy who was employed as a bouncer at a drug-infested club. Then again, could it be the young woman from New York State who spent her nights playing video poker?

Detectives Steve Garneau and Terry Bolton follow the clues they hope will answer their questions, and lead them to the identity of the killer dubbed the One-Armed Bandit.

"This third novel by Jack Miller features a lead character drawn from a composite of different cheaters operating in the glitz and greed of Las Vegas. The methods employed and the scams run by the cheaters are based on actual events.

"Their successes as well as the precautions taken by casinos to protect themselves are both complex and simple. Miller was a senior agent of the Nevada State Gaming Control Board for eleven years and writes from first-hand experience."

Chet’s story takes us on a journey from an inner city ethnic neighborhood in Chicago during The Great Depression to moving to Henderson, Nevada in 2002. He takes us on streetcar rides, train rides with steam locomotives, doctors that made house calls, street vendors with horse and wagon, and meal deliveries twice daily and once on Saturdays. It is a nostalgic narrative of growing up with a widowed mother and an older brother. Struggling through eight years of parochial grammar school, a high school with indifferent teachers, a segregated military near Washington D.C., then having a huge Polish wedding and finally moving out into the suburbs of Chicago to raise a family.

Killer In Pair-A-Dice is the story of a serial rapist and murderer operating in the Las Vegas Valley. Not far from the glitter of this world famous adult playground, the killer claims his victims. Driven by a deep hatred for women, he begins his reign of terror by seeking out those who remind him of someone from his past. Someone who caused him great pain at some point in his life.

To gain control of his victim he applies a garrote around her neck. Once she is scared into submission, he takes her to a desolate area where the rape occurs. His choice for the actual mechanism of death is manual strangulation. This method is as personal as it gets. He enjoys the look on his victim’s face as she realizes she is going to die, as his hands tighten around her throat.

As the body count rises, the national news media pick up on the story. Pressure for a speedy apprehension is brought to bear by feminist groups and politicians. But the killer is both daring and intelligent. He leaves little in the way of clues or evidence that will lead to his being identified. His ability to attack in areas teeming with people without being seen, leads the press to dub him the Phantom.

Detective Steve Garneau, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, is assigned as the lead investigator on the case. Working under a microscope, he pursues his elusive quarry. Then something happens that changes the course of the investigation. Unknown to the detective, an unscrupulous reporter is nearby when he vows not to rest until the killer is on a gurney with a needle in his arm, receiving a lethal injection. When that story is printed, the investigation quickly becomes a personal matter between the hunter and the hunted.

Garneau races the clock to find the murderer before he can strike again, with the real possibility that the next victim could be his own wife or daughter.

Sue Shroeder takes you on a journey few people can imagine. Growing up in Japanese-occupied Korea, Sue is tricked into a life of slavery before she turns ten. She weathers World War II and its aftermath while being tossed from slavery into the traditional servant status of a Korean wife.

During the Korean War, Sue's village changes hands often. She escapes gang-rape, then leads her fellow villagers in carving a cow from a frozen river to stave off hunger. As she deals with the strains of family, poverty, and raising a son, the Communists threaten her life. She falls in love with an American soldier who leaves her, then another who brings her back to his home in Ohio in the 1960s. Her life here includes politics, love triangles, and plenty of sadness and joy. This is an immigrants experience magnified by the history of a marriage and the will of a determined woman. Long before they reach Sue's current life in Las Vegas, readers will have found her to be their new best friend.

This memoir does not dwell on the hardships of a person with a permanent disability. It does, however, reveal many phases of growing up, and because of a disability, the out of the ordinary encounters one must face. What are missed from our lives are the small everyday things taken for granted such as not being able to dance, missing a man's arms around you, not feeling the closeness of his body. Never, ever.

The lack of male attention, the vulnerability of being helpless, attitudes toward our not so perfect bodies all add up to many memories.

Best of all, nothing is held back, let it all out.

It's Okay to Blush.

Author Sue Rainey’s heart wrenching true account of their family’s loss of their son Mike in the city that never sleeps.

AS TIME PASSED

... the city light offered little comfort or joy, especially on those cold, dark nights. To gaze at them inflicted us with grief and instilled in us a perpetual state of fear for our sons life. Once intriguing, comforting, the light now seemed cold and uninviting whenever I caught a glimpse of the strip from the freeway while I was en route to some destination. It was disheartening for Ken, too, as he drove up and down the city streets hoping to spot Mike standing on a corner or sitting at a bus stop in the heart of town.

The strobe effect of the brightly colored signs hinted at a madness that made my scalp prickle, a feeling of impending doom lurking in every shadow cast by them, reminders of how ruthless street life can be.

THE MACKENNA SAGA -- BOOK TWO

What if you awoke from a quarter century of enforced sleep to find that someone wants you dead?

Unjustly convicted of the brutal murders his wife and father, the trial judge orders Kalen MacKenna placed in cold-stasis for twenty five years instead of imposing the death penalty. He awakens to a world changed beyond anything he could have imagined. Kalen's world now has a largely female population, and the birth of a male child though not rare is still a welcomed event.

While he recovers from the effects of cold-stasis an attempt is made on his life, and then a second attempt shortly after his release. With someone wanting him dead, Kalen finds he is alone in the midst of a struggle that he must win or face his own death and the destruction of the Arrisian male population. Along the way he will find people who still believe him guilty of murder and want revenge. A piece of family history never reveled to him. A family willing to risk all to help him, and old wounds of these forgotten friends he must heal. Hidden among all these secrets is a prophecy made months before his birth, foretelling the events of his life.

But on a world as technologically advanced as his, where man controls the very environment of his world, who would believe a prophecy? A prophecy made by a woman who didn't believe it herself, and kept it secret for almost forty years.

The Governing Quorum and Mining Consortiums do.

Kalen and the Arrisians had better.

It's difficult enough losing your mother, especially when you and she were very close, but to also lose your father soon thereafter is more than most people could handle...especially if you've got your own demons to fight. Ron Simon, a recovering alcoholic, shares his poignant story about how in less than a year he "hit rock bottom" with regard to alcohol/drug addiction and lost both of his parents, but with the help of family and friends, he found himself and renewed his faith in God again... one day at a time.
